283 MW Isimba Hydropower Plant and Isimba - Bujaggali Transmission Line

As part of the Owners Engineer for about six (6) years, DHV experience includes management of Isimba Hydro-Power Plant and Transmission Line projects, from construction of civil works to installation of hydraulic steel works, electro-mechanical equipment and transmission lines, to successful commissioning activities, and management of defects notification issues after commissioning.

The experience includes management of complex dam geology and embankment foundation design and construction issues, treatment of leakages in the concrete works of the spillways and powerhouse galleries, dam instrumentation for monitoring safety and for hydropower reservoir operation, dam top roads and site access and internal circulation roads, construction of transmission line towers, completion of scope and rectification of Warranty Services Requests (WSRs) during operation.

The reservoir dam impoundment was completed by December 2019 and the critical element of the Transmission Line to vacate power to the national Grid was completed in February 2019 allowing the commissioning testing of the 4 Units to commence immediately.

The overall commission tests were completed and the Commercial Operations Date was set on 01st April 2019, with up to four (4) years of Defects Liability Period (DLP).

The hydropower plant is feeding the national grid. A few technical design challenges were identified as Warranty Service Requests (WSRs) during the operations stage and the EPC Contractor rectifying these as per the EPC Contract, before issuance of the Performance/ Completion Certificate.
